How this was measured
Computed from every candidate outcome HikeCatalyst has published, 14 switches in total. Each row is a named candidate with a public LinkedIn profile, a stated previous employer and a stated new employer. Packages are self-reported fixed CTC in Indian rupees. Hike percentage is (new โ old) / old, computed per candidate and then medianed โ so the median hike is deliberately not the same as the ratio between the median before-package (โน5 LPA) and the median after-package (โน16 LPA), which are separate order statistics over the same set. No sampling, no weighting, no exclusions โ this is the full published set, which is small enough that the median is the honest headline and the mean is reported alongside it.
What is a good salary hike when switching IT jobs in India?
In this dataset of 14 verified switches the median hike was +147%, with outcomes ranging from +56% to +250%. A hike below the median usually signals that the candidate anchored on their current CTC rather than on the market rate for the target role.
How many offers do people get before switching?
The median was 4 offers per switch. Multiple offers are the single clearest lever on the final number, because they convert the negotiation from a request into a comparison.
How long does an IT job switch take?
The median was 11 weeks from starting the search to accepting an offer. Domain changes sit at the longer end of that range; same-track switches at the shorter end.
